.: Drummer Talk @ FlipOnline :.

Now, this is a really awesome thing, for me at least. I've had SUCH a good time getting some of these clips, and I'm proud to finally share them in an organized "collection" now that we've gotten a few sound files under our belts! Over the past few years that FlipOnline has been in existence, we've heard countless compliments about Scott Phillips. He's obviously very well respected by other drummers and musicians, as well as other industry representatives. Within the past year and a half or so, it was my intent to start collecting some feedback from drummers and other musicians that know Scott. These are the people that know Scott as a fellow musician, as well as a friend. Some know him better than others, but one thing is for sure---Scott has a GREAT reputation out there and every single person I've asked so far have been MORE than willing to help out and give a few words for the site. My original plan was just to have Morgan do one, but since that went over so well, I decided to keep on going. Keep in mind that I'm pretty much just askin' these guys to do this on the fly---no one has the time to "think" much about what the wanna say. I just try to get some witty commentary or a funny "Flip story" from them, and I'll usually just try to get a FlipOnline reference, or at least a "Flip Rocks!", too.

8/22/03: Morgan Rose: Drummer ~ Sevendust. Knowing well in advance that Morgan and Flip are really good 'buddies', I explained the concept behind this very website and asked Morgan if he would mind makin' a lil' recording for me to put up here. After telling me that he had just talked to Scott earlier that afternoon, he said he thought it was a really cool idea...and about two hours later, he grabbed my recorder and this is the final, unedited outcome: A few words from Morgan Rose.

7/27/04: Vinnie Hornsby: Bassist ~ Sevendust. Since Morgan had already done the first sounder for me when Sevendust was in town last, I decided "eh, what the hell" and when I was talking with Vinnie after another show, and I decided to ask him about it. I knew he was pals with Scott, though not necessarily as close as Scott is with Morgan. Anyway... Vinnie was pretty much three sheets to the wind when he called this one in, so the sound quality is kinda poor and he's well...a little repetitive. *chuckles*

2/9/05: Kevin Frank: Drummer ~ Silvertide. Kevin was a busy guy at Hartford, so I mentioned this "concept" to him briefly and he was quick to agree to do it. Since he was running around doing his usual band pimpin'...we didn't get to do the recording right away. After the show, as I was leaving the venue...he walked by and said, "Hey...didn't you want me to record something?" Whoa. Personally, I was impressed that some three hours later, after their set and countless fans in between, he still remembered our original conversation. Click here to listen to what Kevin had to say.

2/16/05: Garrett Whitlock: Drummer ~ Submersed. Garrett had previously disclosed to us what a major influence Flip had on getting him to pick up the sticks, and given the amount of time that he and the boys from Submersed have spent on the road with Alter Bridge and the great relationship that Garrett and Scott have developed, it was only fitting that he be included on this page. I finally managed to snag Garrett for a few minutes after the Pittston show. I basically rambled off a quick rundown what he needed to do, played him Morgan's sound file as a sample... and well...with the exception of the lil' mix-up at the end...I think he did a kick-ass job. The message from Peter Jennings... oops, I mean Garrett Whitlock, can be found here. *lol*

Thanks again to all of the guys who have been SO good-natured in agreeing to help me out and go along with this...YOUUUU guys rock~!!

I do still have one more sound file that I expect to be adding relatively soon... but in the meantime, are you a musician that has worked with Scott? Been on the road together? Got any questions or comments? Know someone else that wants to get in on this? Email me and I'll be happy to set something up!! Oh yeah, and please reference "FlipOnline" in the subject line just so I know what its about...
